13 vs. Adrian Mole

Now I'm going to talk about the movie Thirteen, a movie we watched in english classes, and about the book The secret diary of Adrian Mole, a book that we read for english classes.

Thirteen is a movie based on a girl teenager's life, called Tracy. Tracy doesn't like her life because she wants to be popular in her highschool so she start do stupid things because she wants to be Evie's friend because Evie is popular and one of the most beautiful girls in her highschool. When Evie begins to influence in Tracy's life she starts to change : she begins to use drugs, has a bad relationship with her mother and her brother, cuts herself, don't talk with who were her friends, begins to have bad marks in high school and is sexually promiscuous.

The secret diary of Adrian Mole is a book in which main character is Adrian Mole, a boy teenager who is in love with the new girl in his high school. He has a good friend who is not really a good friend because starts a relationship with Pandora (thw new girl in the high school) and he knew that Adrian was in love with her. Even if Adrian's friend is not a good friend, Adrian thinks that he's his best friend because he explains everything to him. The book explains the new resolutions that Adrian has to the new year and we can see how appear some problems in his life, but things are solved in the end of the book. Well, in the end of the book appear a new problem because Adrian and Pandora are dating but Adrian likes an other girl and eveybody in highschool knows it because Adrian's good friend explains to everybody, so Pandora brake up with him. But when Adrian is in the hospital we can see that Pandora is going to see him so seems that they are in love again...

The book and the film are really different each other but they both talks about adolescence and obsessions.
Tracy is so obsess to be the most popular girl in her highschool, she wants to be the most beautiful and the most cool and rebel. And Adrian is obsess with how mesures his "thing", is obsess with his spots and is obsess with the girl that he likes, Pandora.
Allthough, personalities of thoses characters are too different. Tracy is so rebel, she uses drugs and Adrian doesn't like them. Adrian doesn't smoke and doesn't like people who smokes. It was funny for me when Adrian wrote in his diary that he knows that Pandora smokes but he can stand it because he is in love.
Both have parents divorced. In the begining of the book, Adrian's parents are together but then the mother leaves the house and her family and she goes to live in an other place because she's with an other man. But in the end of the story she return with her family.
In the film, we don't know why Tracy's parents are divorced but it seems that is because her father is always working and don't care about his family. Tracy's mother has a boyfriend but Tracy doesn't like him.

In my opinion, the book is more funny than the film because is a story from a naive viewpoint, there are hard problems but explained by a child who is growing up and starting to be a teenager. However, 13 is more dramatic and cruel and some scenes can they be violent for some audiences. We can think that the film is a little bit unreal but the true is that there are a lot of teenagers suffering like Tracy. I don't know anybody with the same problems than Tracy but is hard to know that some teeanger that is only 13 years old can suffer like her.
